Michael Novak, a philosopher, theologian, and author, is the 1994 recipient of the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion. He has been an emissary to the United Nations Human Rights Commission and to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. He has written twenty-seven books on the philosophy and theology of culture, especially the essential elements of a free society, including The Universal Hunger for Liberty (2004), Washington's God (2006), and No One Sees God: the Dark Night of Atheists and Believers (2008).
The Ralph McInerny Center's goal is to promote the classical and Christian intellectual tradition by sponsoring conferences, lectures, classes, and publications. It especially seeks to overcome the dominant relativism and hyper-specialization that undermine universities today. The Center is currently studying the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area as a possible place for its permanent location.
